[Review] The Best Birthday Cake – Angry Bird Cake

Every year, I will check with my boys on what they would like for their birthday. This is Monster’s 2nd time expressing himself explicitly on what type of cake he wants for his birthday. We had a Tayo cake for his 3rd birthday from Pine Gardens (they did the background and we simply put the toys onto the cake). The cake was great as we always loved Pine Gardens.

This year, he requested for Angry Birds. Pine Gardens was not able to help on this one so we asked around for recommendations. There were many recommendations and the first was a well known baker but I was not satisfied with the design proposed and it took her quite a while to reply me. I’m not even sure if she bothered to find out what I was looking for.

And so, I asked again on Facebook and decided to contact another baker. This baker is Sabrina from NaNa Bake Jelly & Cake.

A quick look into the cakes she uploaded and I liked what I saw. I quickly sent her a message via Whatsapp (thanks to Serene Neo who recommended and sent me her contact number). I first sent her a message on 18th August 2015 8pm.

So I sent her a few pictures I grabbed from the web as reference to what I’m looking for. To be honest, I’m really not fussy. I just want something that my boy will be impressed with and love.

I really like how she patiently explained the difference between fondant and cream so that I can understand what I will be getting. And this really helps to manage my expectations so the cake was really exactly what we wanted.

After all the detailed explanation, we were able to confirm all the details and I made payment on 19 August 2015 3.10pm. From first contact till order confirmed & paid: 19 hours.
For a busy baker with many orders, she is really quick. I like!

She takes 50% deposit but I preferred making payment in full (forgetful, always cannot remember how much balance to pay). It turned out to be a wise choice as I sent Ahjussi to collect the cake due to the haze (I’m trapped indoors with Meimei).

Fast forward to a few days before the celebration, she sent me a message to double confirm some details. At the same time, I felt so assured that she remembers my order!

And so… With all that excitement, Ahjussi brought the boys (fully masked with N95 masks) in the haze to collect the cake and head to school. The school always had DIY background deco done up for the kids. Really love his school too.

I think I will let the pictures do some talking. (Sorry for the blur pictures – Ahjussi needs some photography courses.)

And so, the details like the birds and pig were done in white chocolate (with food colouring I assume). Totally edible (just look at that face)!

I tasted the cake & ate a bird and some logs! Ahjussi brought home some leftovers.
Cake was chocolate sponge. Nice and soft. Not overly sweet. Perfect with the cream!
The bird was awesome chocolate! Milky type and not too sweet.

Though I was not there to see it personally, Monster came home talking about his cake non stop.
The joy and glee… Not just the birthday boy but his friends at school too…
Cannot be described with words.

All parents will agree with me on this: As long as they are happy, we will give everything we can for them.

I’m really happy I made the right choice and made this little boy a very happy boy today.
